Joshua McGee has completed his first year in Ferris, TX. In his first year McGee guided the Jackets back into the playoffs after a three year absence. The Yellowjackets finished 16-11 (9-4) as a Bi-District Finalist. Several Jackets received postseason awards including All-Ellis County, Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team, 2nd Team, and district Honorable Mentions. Season highlights included being featured as #24 in the state. McGee also had his first Ferris Basketball signee in year one.

Before accepting the job at Ferris, coach McGee was the Varsity assistant at Midlothian High School. Upon McGee’s arrival the Panthers had just clinched one playoff berth over the last 7 years. With McGee’s help in year one with the Panthers they advanced to the state tournament for the first time in school history finishing 28-11 a school record for wins. In three years with Midlothian McGee helped the Panthers achieve a 75-31 record and a 7-3 playoff record. In this time Midlothian enjoyed immense postseason success.

Prior to Midlothian, McGee spent six seasons as Nathan Hale High School's Head Boys Basketball Coach and Athletic Director for three years. The Rangers improved their win total under McGee since 2011. In six years McGee has produced eight college signees and his first NCAA signee in DaVaunta Thomas. Thomas is currently playing professionally after graduating from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Under McGee, Rangers have received OCA All-State, OBCA All Star Selections, OBCA All Academic Selection, All-Tulsa Metro, All-Conference, OkHoops reviews, and a McDonald’s All-American nomination. McGee successfully implemented a new culture to Nathan Hale basketball. The Rangers were Regional Finals Runner-up in 2017 and Area Final Runner-up in 2017 falling 8 points shy of their first State Tournament berth in 21 years.

McGee came to Tulsa from Wichita Falls, TX where he helped Hirschi High School reach the 3A Regional Tournament at Texas Tech University and achieve a 23-12 record in his first year. While working in Wichita Falls McGee got the chance to work with Marcus Foster and Richard Ross both currently playing professionally. After respective careers at Creighton and Old Dominion.

Prior to Hirschi McGee was the Head Assistant at Montana State University Billings. McGee came to MSUB from Western Oklahoma State College, where he was an assistant for head coach Rolando De La Barrera since 2006. McGee’s strong recruiting ties benefited the Yellow Jackets rebuilding efforts in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. In his first year the YellowJackets had one of the largest turnarounds in NCAA Division II basketball going 1-28 the previous season to 10-17 in 2009. In 2010 the program posted its first winning record in four years by going 15-10 and narrowly missing the NCAA playoffs. The Jackets also had three players receive conference honorable mention in 2009, with senior transfer Travis Bunker landing a contract to play with the ABA Sacramento Heat.

As the top assistant at Western Oklahoma State College, McGee was instrumental in helping lead one of the biggest turnarounds in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) in 2006-2007 as Western Oklahoma State College was 6-24 in 2005-2006 and improved to 21-11 in McGee’s first year with skipper De La Barrera. Western also opened the 2006-2007 season stunning #1 Midland College in Midland, TX. Midland College eventually went on to win the 2007 NJCAA National Championship. While at Western Oklahoma State College, McGee has coached four nationally ranked players, including Derrick Wright #196 by jucojunction.com and NJCAA All-American Reggie Huffman. In his time at Western 14 players have received scholarships to schools at the NAIA and NCAA Division I and II levels. In his two years at Western Oklahoma State College the Pioneers have qualified for the Bi-State Region tournament back to back years. The Pioneers have been ranked as high as #12 in the NJCAA top 25.

The team earned a #2 ranking in Oklahoma 5A and later reached the Elite Eight in 2005. While at MacArthur High School McGee has helped produce three All-State players for the Highlanders.

From 1998-2008, McGee was the founder and director of the Oklahoma Lions Basketball program. During his tenure, McGee has run one of the most successful youth programs in Southern Oklahoma and the team has amassed over 350 wins and won numerous tournaments. In addition, 27 Oklahoma Lions have moved on to play collegiate basketball.
