HORNETS BEAT FERRIS, 44-6
The Athens Hornets capped off a wet night with a dominating victory over the Ferris Yellowjackets 44-6 Thursday at Bruce Field.
The junior varsity improved to 3-1 with the victory.
The opening score came with 8:38 left in the first quarter as David Cleto recovered a fumble in the end zone. Cedric Lowe then found Sebastian Stegall on the two-point conversion for the 8-0 lead.
Lowe then found Ryan Carnes on a 19-yard touchdown reception with 4:19 left in the first quarter. Lowe ran in the two-point conversion for the 16-0 lead.
Athens added one more touchdown in the first as Colin Barker scored from seven yards out. The Hornets went for two, but missed the conversion with 50 seconds left.
Ferris scored its only touchdown with 9:08 remaining in the first half as Steven Rachel blasted his way for 37 yards.
Lowe gave the Hornets a 28-6 lead with 6:25 remaining in the first half on a 15 yard run.
Barker added his second touchdown of the night with a 20-yard touchdown with 1:15 left in the third quarter. Lowe found Jarred Duff on the two-point conversion for the 36-6 lead.
The final touchdown came with 1:33 remaining in regulation as Drew Horn scored on an 8-yard run. Andy Castro ran in the two-point conversion for the 44-6 victory.
Barker finished the night with 11 carries for 124 yards, while Lowe had five carries for 117 yards.
Athens had 304 yards rushing and 62 yards passing in the victory.
